AI for Small Businesses in Pakistan: A Practical Guide from WhatsApp to Google
If you run a clothing shop, sell home-cooked food, manage a beauty parlour or do mobile repairs, AI can save you a lot of time. You don't need expensive software or a technical degree for this; a free assistant like ChatGPT or Gemini and your phone are enough. In this article you will learn how to set up a WhatsApp Business catalog, how to get AI to write product descriptions and social media posts, how to prepare replies for customers, how to keep simple accounts in Google Sheets, and how people can find you through Google Business Profile. At the end there are some essential precautions for keeping data safe.
1. WhatsApp Business catalog and AI-written product descriptions
In Pakistan, many customers ask questions on WhatsApp before they buy. Instead of regular WhatsApp, use the WhatsApp Business app. It is free and comes with features such as a business profile, a catalog, automated messages and labels.
How to create a catalog
- In WhatsApp Business, go to Tools (on some phones, Business tools) and open Catalog.
- Tap Add new item.
- Add clear photos of the product and enter its name, price (optional) and description.
- Save it. Customers can now see the catalog on your profile, and you can share any item in any chat.
Menu names and their order can change with the app version; check WhatsApp's Help Center for the current steps.
Let AI write the description
Write a short WhatsApp catalog description in simple Urdu for a women's lawn 3-piece suit: printed shirt, chiffon dupatta, plain trouser, unstitched. Mention fabric, that the colour may look slightly different on screen, and end with "Order ke liye message karein". Maximum 60 words. Do not exaggerate.
In this prompt we gave the real details of the item, specified the language and length, and told it not to exaggerate. Let AI write only what is true; false claims destroy a customer's trust. Always read AI-written text yourself once, especially the price, size and material.
2. Social media posts
Writing something new every day for Facebook, Instagram or TikTok can feel hard. Ask AI to make a one-week plan for you:
I run a small home bakery in Lahore. Make a 7-day social media plan with one post idea per day (product photo, behind the scenes, customer tip, offer, etc.). For each day give a short caption in Roman Urdu and 3 relevant hashtags. Keep the tone warm and honest.
- For the post image, a phone photo of your real product works best. How to create AI images for backgrounds or posters is explained in our article Guide to Creating Images with AI.
- Don't present an AI-generated image as your actual product; customers expect exactly what they see in the picture.
- Ask for whichever language your customers read: Roman Urdu, Urdu script or English.
3. Customer replies
The same questions come in every day: what's the price, how many days for delivery, is cash on delivery available, what's the return policy.
- Ask AI to write short, polite answers to these questions.
- Save them in Quick replies in WhatsApp Business, so you can type "/" and send them instantly.
- Also set up a Greeting message and an Away message, so that when the shop is closed customers are told when you will reply.
A customer is angry because their order arrived two days late. Write a polite, short reply in Urdu that apologises, explains we are checking with the courier, and offers to share the tracking update. Do not promise a refund.
Getting AI to write a calm draft before replying to an angry customer saves you from an emotional response. But read the reply before sending it, and don't make a promise you can't keep.
4. Simple bookkeeping in Google Sheets
You don't need big accounting software. Google Sheets is free and works on mobile too.
- Create a sheet with these columns: date, description, income, expense, category.
- Add a formula at the bottom for the totals, for example total income =SUM(C2:C200).
- For profit, subtract the total expenses from the total income.
If you don't know the formula, ask AI:
In Google Sheets, column A has dates, column C has income and column D has expenses. Give me a formula to calculate total profit for the current month only, and explain it in simple Urdu.
Gemini is available inside Google Sheets on some accounts and plans, but you can get the same job done by asking a free chat assistant for the formula. Once a week, look at your sheet to see which items are selling most and where you are spending too much. For tax or legal matters, consult a qualified accountant; don't rely on AI.
5. Google Business Profile
When someone searches for "nearest bakery" or "mobile repair near me", the shops that appear on Google Maps show up through Google Business Profile. It is free.
- Go to google.com/business and sign in with your Google account.
- Enter your business name, category, address (or your service area if you serve customers from home), phone number and opening hours.
- Complete Verification. Google usually verifies through a video recording, a phone call or other methods; Google decides which method you get.
- Add real photos of your shop, your products and the inside.
AI helps here too: writing your business description and drafting replies to reviews. Remember: writing or buying fake reviews is against Google's policy and can get your profile suspended. Politely asking satisfied customers for a review is enough.
A short list of useful prompts
- "Write a 150-word Google Business Profile description for my shop [name], in simple Urdu."
- "Write a short thank-you reply to this customer review: [review]"
- "Write three WhatsApp Status captions for a Ramadan offer, in Roman Urdu, without false claims."
- "Write Quick reply answers to my five most frequently asked questions: [questions]"
The principles of writing better prompts are covered in detail in our article Prompt Engineering in Urdu. And if you want to offer these same skills to others as a service, read Freelancing with AI.
Data safety: don't make this mistake
- Don't paste information such as customers' names, phone numbers, addresses or CNICs into an AI chat. If you need to give an example, remove the names and numbers.
- Never give your bank account details, passwords or OTPs to any chatbot.
- Keep 2-Step Verification turned on for WhatsApp Business and your Google account.
- Messages like "Earn thousands daily with AI" are often scams. To learn more, read Safety and Privacy in the Age of AI.
